Answers to all your hack queries (ask one, go on!)
1: How much time do hackers get to develop their hacks ?
A: Official Hacking time at the venue is from 1pm on Sat 14th to 1pm on Sun 15th. You could be working on your hack right now as we speak.
2. Can I connect to the IRC Channel directly instead of using the web ? If so what is the name of the Channel ?
A: Yes you can. Its irc://irc.freenode.net/openhackers2009. This is only for the hackers to mingle with. The official hackday support IRC channel will go live on day of event @ irc://irc.freenode.net/hackday.
3. What is hacking?
A: For newbies to hacking here is a nice presentation on Hacking 101 by Chris Heilmann
4. Is it ok to use non-Yahoo APIs?
A: Yes it is ok to use non-Yahoo APIs. But this is also a good time for you to try out the Yahoo! Open Platforms. Maybe you can mash-up the Y! APIs with the non-Y! APIs and come up with an awesome hack! Who knows it may make life easier for you! Interact at the Tech sessions and the BOF sessions to find out more. Thanks.
5. Can my 'significant other' (hack-a-valentine) join me in hacking?
A: Hack-a-Valentine is only from 7pm-9pm on Sat and unfortunately we will not be able to host the guests outside of this time (physical space limitations). But nothing says they could not be online and hacking with you in cyberspace through the remaining hack time window?
6. If I registered only as an Info Geek, will I be permitted to stay for the whole Hack event?
A: No, you will not be allowed to stay. If you registered as just an Info Geek, then once the talks are done at 1:00pm on Saturday 14th, you will be asked to leave the event. Only Hackers will be allowed to stay for the whole 2 days.
7. I understand some hackers will be onto something right away, but for those who have no clue about Yahoo! APIs, are there some suggestions?
A: Yes! Take a look at http://developer.yahoo.com/everything.html which has info and links to documentation on all our APIs and cool resources.
8. Can hackers present a sort of blueprint to a hack without actually having to implement it?
A: No, you will need to show a working demo of your hack
9. Can hackers form teams amongst themselves, or give out feelers to be interested in forming a team?
A: Yes please! Check out this link: Join a Hack Team
10. Should I be taking care of my own hardware needs, like a laptop? If there are any other hardware needs, do put up info about the same.
A: Look at this page for what you should bring: Pre-Hack Day Checklist

Before I edit this page, I wanted to know whether it's fine to do so :o]

Just don't steal the locks and regular decorum to edit and preserve previous content.

Umm, that's fine. Actually this is the very first time I'm thinking of participating in an OHD, and I have no clue how to go about it. I went through some posts about the previous OHD, but couldn't really gather all the info I needed.
Some questions that come readily to my mind are -
1. I understand some hackers will be onto something right away, but for those who have no clue about Yahoo! APIs, are there some suggestions?
2. Can hackers present a sort of blueprint to a hack without actually having to implement it?
3. Can hackers form teams amongst themselves, or give out feelers to be interested in forming a team?
4. Should I be taking care of my own hardware needs, like a laptop? If there are any other hardware needs, do put up info about the same.
Thanks, will post in a few more queries as when they cross my mind.

I have these same doubts actually, What about the people who are attending this event for the first time. I remember I got invitation for last open hack day event, but could not attend it, but there we were asked to bring our own laptops.
